Finding Apartments For Rent in Woodland Hills, CA

Combining the best of all urban worlds, Woodland Hills is a safe community with suburban charm, in close proximity to the booming metropolis of Los Angeles. Comprised of palm-tree lined streets, cute shops, quiet residential neighborhoods, and more than a few wealthy Hollywood executives, Woodland Hills is a great spot in the greater Los Angeles area for renters raising a family.

Top Neighborhoods in Woodland Hills, CA

Only 36.9% of households in Woodland Hills are rentals. There are apartment buildings for rent in the area, but the majority of households are located in single-family homes. This suburb isn't quite a bedroom community, but definitely has a bedroom-community feel to it, with quiet, tree-lined streets and many residents commuting into LA for their jobs. While Woodland Hills isn't exactly divided into neighborhoods that have boundaries and names, there are definitely differences between some areas of Woodland Hills.

    • Ventura Blvd. - One of the most famous streets in the valley, Ventura Blvd is a center for retail and commerce. Many apartment buildings are located in and around Ventura Blvd. Lined with restaurants and shops, this busy and lively street can get choked with traffic at peak rush hour times. Residents around Ventura Blvd. appreciate the close proximity to the 101 freeway, as well as the many bars, restaurants and grocery stores found along the way.
    • South of Ventura Blvd. - Just south of Ventura Blvd. are the foothills of the Santa Monica Mountains. This relatively wealthy area features many single family homes and fewer opportunities to rent. However, for residents who seek quiet neighborhoods, close proximity to nature activities, and a short commute into Los Angeles, this is an ideal area.
    • North of Ventura Blvd. - The majority of apartments are located north of Ventura Blvd., in areas around major roads like Victory Blvd. These areas have their own benefits, including cheaper rents and close proximity to many valley businesses.

Transportation Options in Woodland Hills, CA

Public Transportation - Many residents in Woodland Hills own cars and find the public transportation options to be somewhat limiting. Woodland Hills is covered by the LA Metro bus system, and patient residents will find that they can get around--to other parts of the valley as well as many parts of Los Angeles--by bus.

Buses come in different types, including local and rapid services. Some buses connect to metro rail system, a subway line that provides limited coverage of the LA area. Getting around Woodland Hills and the greater LA area by bus can save money, and some commuters find the buses to be a relaxing alternative to driving.

Driving - To put it mildly, many residents find maneuvering LA area traffic to be a challenge. Residents of the valley as well as the entire LA area are known to build their schedules around traffic patterns. Woodland Hills is located along the 101 freeway, and many residents in Woodland Hills use this freeway as their main route to get into and out of the city for their jobs. Rush hour in this area begins as early as 6AM, and ends as late as 7:30PM, with disappointingly little rest between morning and evening rush hours.

Cultural Attractions and Entertainment in Woodland Hills, CA

With LA so close, the cultural attractions are abundant and varied. Woodland Hills lies within close proximity to City of Malibu beaches as well as LA and all its points of cultural interest. The San Fernando Valley, where Woodland Hills is located, is not known to be a hub of culture or nightlife when compared to the glut of entertainment and culture located just over the mountains inside LA.

That said, there are some cultural points of interest and entertainment centers found in the valley. This includes Universal Studios and Mulholland Drive, the winding road that runs through the Santa Monica Mountains. Residents of Woodland Hills seeking information about points of cultural interest and entertainment can find information on the San Fernando Valley page of the Discover Los Angeles website.

For a brief overview of entertainment and cultural venues in LA, the Time Out website has a respectable list of things to do LA. Rest assured, residents of Woodland Hills should find it difficult to become bored living so close to so many cultural attractions and entertainment venues.

    Weather in Woodland Hills, CA

Transplants to California living in Woodland Hills may find themselves in a state of shock in their first year in the valley. With little to no rain 9 months out of the year, sunny skies dominating throughout the year and relatively low humidity, the entire LA area seems like a paradise.

Although only minutes apart on the 405 or 101 freeways, daily temperatures between LA and Woodland Hills are often very different from one another. LA enjoys cool coastal breezes and maintains a very narrow range of average high temperatures, between 68 and 84 degrees Fahrenheit from January through December.

By contrast, Woodland Hills average high temperatures throughout the year range between 69 and 97 degrees Fahrenheit. Although only half an hour away from Los Angeles (in good traffic), Woodland Hills lies on the other side of a mountain, where hot air is trapped and temperatures are frequently 10 degrees warmer at any given time.

Rain in Woodland Hills typically only occurs sporadically between the months of November through March, and occasionally during the weather phenomenon known locally as "May gray" and "June gloom." This recurring weather pattern is the cause of a foggy marine layer that hangs over the entire LA area--including Woodland Hills--in the early hours of the day during the months of May and June.
