Anyone moving to the San Diego area avoid the Club River Run apartments in Mission Valley. We left our apartment MUCH cleaner than it was when we moved in (seriously. We were finding other people's underwear etc when we first moved in. Gross.) with no damage and are being charged ridiculous amounts of our security deposit. I provided them with links to information on CA.gov's website showing them some the things they are charging us for (carpet cleaning fee for normal wear and tear, which by the way we asked when we moved in if there would be one and were told NO) are not allowed. I was completely blown off and then when I called to complain they refused to give me a break down of the charges and why we are being charged what we were and *hung up on me*.
We also had a feeling after our initial walk through they were going to do this to us so when we turned in our keys and requested a walk through to be done then and they refused. We took pictures of the apartment after cleaning it to show the condition we left it in and the response I got from them when I told them that was "Good for you". Not to mention we spent months without a functioning dryer and hundreds of dollars in damaged/destroyed clothes while we repeatedly called maintenance to come and fix it (they would come, tell us it was fixed, it would ruin more stuff, we call again, and repeat several times).
Seriously save yourself the headache and look elsewhere. Wish we had saved ourselves time and not cleaned since they clearly were going to charge us for cleaning regardless of whether or not we did it. Every apartment I have ever moved out of has gladly done a walk through when asked and always told me "Great! We won't need to do any cleaning here!"
Now for living there: the only pro is location (we did love being right off the trolley line). The apartments are tiny, NOISY (think being woken up every night at around 3 am by yelling neighbors for the first 2 months we lived there and I am a super heavy sleeper), lied to about fees, lied to about average utility bills, parking is horrible even with assigned spots (don't think you will ever get to have anyone over because the residents are encouraged to park in guest parking/ street parking instead of their assigned spots and we had to call so many times because people were parked in our assigned spot), locks on the dumpsters that don't work 75% of the time so you have to walk around to differenct dumpsters until you find one that works, etc. We are so happy to be out of there.
