  • Long Beach, California

Long Beach, California is found on the Pacific Coast and its beach is large. This is one of the reasons while people from all across America want to move to, and live in, Southern California. Long Beach is the second busiest ocean port in the United States. It is famous for its Grand Prix race where each year the downtown area is closed off, to allow formula one race cars to speed through the streets in an internationally recognized competition. Long Beach is also famous for having the Queen Mary ship on permanent display, waiting for exploration by millions of tourists.

Finding Apartments for Rent in Long Beach, CA

Long Beach is a large port city on the coast. It is the 7th largest city in California with a population of around 500,000, so it has the full range of neighborhoods from nice to poor. The most expensive apartments are luxury condominiums in high-rise buildings overlooking the beach, with a spectacular view of the ocean. However; there are also very run-down areas, which are dangerous. There are middle class areas with decent economical apartments as well. Apartments closer to the beach with views are the more pricey and desirable locations.

Top Neighborhoods in Long Beach, CA

As a general rule in Long Beach, there are neighborhoods with the same name designated as either “beach” or “heights.” The areas designated as beach are nicer than those called heights so Alamitos Beach is nice, but Alamitos Heights is less nice.

    • Alamitos Beach: Alamitos Beach is near the downtown area which is a delightful area to live.
    • Belmont Shore: Belmont Shore is a nice upper-middle class area with nice apartments and small bungalow type houses.
    • Naples Island: Naples Island is nice if one likes sailing. because it is easy to keep a sailboat nearby.
    • Recreation Park: Recreation Park is a nice neighborhood, which is safe and friendly. Homeowners maintain their houses well. Many have lush gardens. There are plenty of smaller apartment buildings as well.

    Cultural Attractions Long Beach, CA

    • Grand Prix: Held every year in summer, this race is super popular. The downtown resonates with the sound of race cars, which everyone hears from miles away.

    • Long Beach Convention and Entertainment Center: This area has a convention center and an arena for sport and music events plus the beautiful Rainbow Lagoon Park.
    • Shoreline Village: Shoreline Village is full of piers for small boats and is a lively section with lots of bars, attractions, restaurants, and things to do.
    • Treasure and Naples Island: At Christmas, there are well-lit boat parades passing through the Naples Canals. It is also possible to ride in a gondola during the rest of the year.
    • Aquarium of the Pacific: The Aquarium of the Pacific is part of the attractions in the area near the Long Beach Convention Center. It has over 12,000 live fish and animals. Visitors pet sharks and stingrays.

    Shopping in Long Beach, CA

Shopping in the downtown area is quite fun as there are about 216 shops. A list of shops provided by the Downtown Long Beach Association shows the variety. In Shoreline Village shopping combines with both dining and entertainment. Shoreline Village caters a bit more to the tourists, nevertheless locals like it as well. The 4th Street Retro Area has over 40 shops all based on the general theme of retro, so it is a wonderful place to search for second hand items and discover a treasure from years gone by. There are frequently outdoor musical events in this area as well.

    Dining in Long Beach, CA

Like all major cities, every kind of dining experience imaginable is available. Some of the best restaurants are in the downtown area. Unlike other major cities, the downtown area of Long Beach is clean, safe, and much has been recently renovated. Favorite restaurants have ocean views. A nice weekend includes a visit to downtown to have dinner at one of the many restaurants and then follow dinner with a show at the Terrace Theater or an event at the Long Beach Arena.

    Weather in Long Beach, CA

The weather in Long Beach is eternal summer. Air pollution is bad, just like Los Angeles. Sometime the oil refineries operating nearby cause a noticeable sulfur dioxide (rotten eggs smell) odor in the air, but those incidences are rare. Most of the time the weather is mild, the sun is bright, and the temperature is enjoyable. During winter, the temperature averages 60°F. During summer, the average temperature is about 75°F. It rains in winter during the months of December to February. February is the wettest month having about 3 inches of precipitation. Humidity stays constant between 60% to 80% and there are frequent ocean breezes. The sun shines more than 70% of the time, so getting a golden sun tan is quite easy to achieve by hanging out at the beach.
